Boonchuka was a name given to two types of characters. One was a village of people depicted in a line-less art style. The other was a pair of two children, a boy and a girl. The earliest known sighting of both of these designs is 1986.
History and Controversy
When Sambo and Hannah became controversial for resembling racist blackface caricatures, Boonchuka also became involved for resembling racist stereotypes and caricatures. They became discontinued and are no longer officially acknowledged by Sanrio.
