Chihuahua (チワワ) is a Sanrio character/brand that debuted in 2002-2003. According to the book "Sanrio Design '90s-2010s", the brand was conceived based on the celebrity trend of small dog pets, and also included Pomeranians, Poodles, and Dachshunds (though more information is needed to confirm the existence of these designs). Some Chihuahua merchandise is branded under the SweetClover line of Sanrio goods (which featured many other different Sanrio characters, not just Chihuahua) while some are instead additionally branded under Vivitix, a chain of stores in Japan that sell Sanrio merchandise.
The Chihuahua character is a small dog with shaggy white, pastel yellow, or light pink fur, inner-ears shaped like hearts, big black eyes with eyelashes, and wearing a pearl necklace/collar around its neck. The phrase "Silky, sweet, and simply irresistible- that's me!" is seen on most items.
