Eddy (エディ) is an original character created for Sanrio English Master. He's bright, energetic and playful, and he loves playing with his best friend Pita, as well as their other friends, Arie and Noah. His tail can turn into various shapes, but snakes tend to follow him around, since they often mistake his tail for one of their own. His favorite catchphrase is "wow!," and he treasures his stuffed animal. He says that he has so many dreams to pursue that he can't pick just one. His favorite foods are oranges and hamburgers.
Eddy and Pita are a duo under the name BuddyEddy (バディエディ). The duo has an official X account, with daily updates. Eddy has covered "Head, Shoulders, Knees and Toes" in an animated music video[2].
Per the universe he was created for, he frequently uses English words and phrases, even when speaking Japanese. It can be inferred that he, alongside all the other characters unique to Sanrio English Master, are not only fluent in English, but use the language in day-to-day communication.
Development[]
Eddy was created alongside researchers with toddlers' interests in mind. Several characters were presented to a large group of young children, including Eddy, while researchers used eye-tracking technology to track which characters were most appealing. It was also noted that blue is a color that increases concentration, helping children better focus on the educational material.
