Fairy Kitty (キティフェアリー Kiti Fearī) is a spin-off of the Hello Kitty franchise, originally created in the late 1990s by Sanrio. While Fairy Kitty is sometimes depicted as being an alternate form of Hello Kitty, she is shown to be a separate character in the first two Charmmy Kitty OVA specials.
As with many Hello Kitty promotions at the time, Fairy Kitty is often accompanied by small bears and a Cathy/"Daisy"-like rabbit, both of which are depicted with wings. Presumably due to the legal issues surrounding Cathy, the rabbit is removed from modern (post-2011) reprintings of the Fairy Kitty artwork.
Designs[]
Six different designs of Fairy Kitty were created:
- Flower - depicts Hello Kitty in a pink dress and flower crown, accompanied by bears dressed as bees.
- Rainbow - depicts Fairy Kitty and a white Cathy in rainbow dresses.
- Official description: "High on a cloud in a soft purple sky, Her rainbow bunnies fly close to her side. A wave of wand spills magical light, As spectrums of color fill everyone's sight."
- Water - depicts Fairy Kitty and a pink Cathy as mermaids resting on a seashell.
- Official description: "Floating with bubbles in an ocean of blue, Fairy Kitty Mermaid sends good wishes to you. When she sits in a shell with her pink bunny friend, An underwater world of magic begins!"
- Forest - depicts Fairy Kitty in a green dress and a leafy rose crown, alongside bears dressed in green.
- Star - depicts Fairy Kitty in a sparkly blue dress, alongside blue Cathys playing flutes and harps.
- Snow - depicts Fairy Kitty in a thick blue coat, with a snowflake and tiara on her head; alongside several white Cathys in similar attire.
- Official description: "Cloaked in a world of shimmering ice, Fairy Kitty Snow is sure to entice. Her bunny friends smile and dance on the frost. The wonder of winter, a dream never lost."
Trivia[]
- The "Kitty Castle" attraction at the Harmonyland amusement park appears to be based on Fairy Kitty; though it does not directly use its branding.
