Flat

Flat (フラットくん, Furatto-kun) is a blue mouse boy character from the Japanese company Sanrio and part of the My Melody universe. He one of My Melody's best friends alongside My Sweet Piano. Though a little shy, Flat is honest and kind. He enjoys mushroom hunting, playing in the fields with My Melody, and eating ice cream, his favorite food.

Appearance[]

Flat has light blue fur, big round ears with pink or yellow linings, a yellow oval nose, and a long skinny tail with a bow on it. Some early versions of the character have brownish grey fur, a light blue striped shirt, and blue pants. This was most notably in the early 1990s. Flat made his first appearance in 1976, making himself one of Sanrio's oldest known characters.

Flat plays a major role in the Netflix stop-motion series My Melody & Kuromi, alongside the 2005 anime series Onegai My Melody as a partner of the human character Kakeru Kogure.

Trivia[]

Some artwork depicts Flat with different colored fur besides blue and grey, such as yellow^[1] and pink^[2].
Flat's name could be a pun on being flattened, but he is actually named after half step notes in music known as Flats (♭) & Sharps (♯). These types of notes are played on black keys of a piano.
Flat is sometimes compared by fans to another mouse character Joey, from Hello Kitty's universe, due to Flat sharing similar colors to Joey, both having blue fur and yellow inner ears.
In My Melody & Kuromi, Flat is also shown further to have a short temper like Kuromi and My Sweet Piano (by not much), esspecially whenever Kuromi is causing mischief or has suspicion between Mr. Pistachio and My Melody.
