"I, Dr. Frankencat, will go down in history as the first scientist to create life from spare parts. They laughed at me in kindergarten! They made fun of me at recess! Soon, they will laugh no more!"
—Dr. Frankencat

Frankencat is an episode of the television series Hello Kitty's Furry Tale Theater that is based on based on Mary Shelley's story Frankenstein. It aired on November 7, 1987.

Story[]

Dr. Frankencat (Catnip) creates a good-natured monster (Grinder) who befriends My Melody. But it's up to Hello Kitty and Constable Sam to save the friendly beast from a horde of angry villagers.

Plot[]

Before the show, Fangora was getting Catnip ready for the stage, much to her daughter's dismay in appearance. She was supposed to look horrendous to fit her character, but she knows she will be laughed at as she tests this by trying to look intimidating in front of Chip. Her predicament was right as he and Hello Kitty laughed at her, as the latter calls out to everyone to get in their places as Catnip scolds at her mother for it.

The story begins on a stormy night in the small town of Catsylvania at the dreaded castle of the infamous Dr. Frankencat, who was determined to go down in history as the first scientist to create life from spare parts after years of humiliation to correct them. She calls for her good-for-nothing assistant Igor to send him for parts. He tries to object because of the current weather, but she finds this an opportunity for him to be unnoticed by anybody. She sends him off, telling him to make sure the parts don't rust.

Meanwhile at a house in town, Hello Kitty was reading a horror novel to her niece My Melody. This already frightens the poor little rabbit, despite trying to heed her aunt's advice. Kitty goes to grab a lantern, leaving Melody alone in the living room. She then notices a strange figure inside the room (who happens to be Igor looting from the house) and hides under the couch. Kitty comes back with the lantern, as her niece tells her of what she saw. Kitty teases her that it was probably the boogie man from under the couch, before noticing that the light bulb from the lamp is gone, so she goes to check outside as Melody follows along. Outside, her porch light has gone too. Then she notices Igor heading for the old graveyard, thinking he's the one who stole her lights. She decides to tell Constable Sam right away, before rescheduling it to morning due to the storm.

A wet Igor returns to the castle with most of the stuff Frankencat required; lightbulbs, bicycle chain, electric motor, skateboard wheels, dome light, bike gears, all except for the transmission after picking the wrong one. She goes to send him back to get the right one, including a decent looking head for it, but it's sunrise, so they'll have to wait until tonight.

Kitty prepares to head off to the police station on her bicycle, but realizes she can't go anywhere with it; it has no chain. At the police station, Constable Sam notices that his patrol car's police lights are missing. Before he could investigate a clue he discovered, a herd of villagers rush to him all sharing the same dilemma as he asks them one by one; Grandpa Kitty's car has no engine, and Grandma Kitty's washing machine was stolen. The constable asks if anyone had seen the thief in action, as Kitty comes up to him and confirms that she has seen him, knowing where he was going. Hearing this, Sam and Kitty enact on the plan to catch him tonight.

That night, the two were at the old graveyard as they were already nerved by its eerie atmosphere while trying to remain calm and confident. Suddenly, footsteps are heard as the two hide silently. Igor walks down the decrepit grounds back to Frankencat's castle carrying more loot behind him. Kitty says that he's the one she saw as the two follow behind him to the castle.

The two arrive at castle about to climb up its vines, just as another storm was about to roll in. Inside, Frankencat tells Igor he has done well and asks him if he brought a head for her robot. Her answer was affirmative as he presents the head he stole from a monster ride at the town's amusement park to her, much to her dismay but decides to work it out nonetheless. Sam and Kitty soon make it up to the top of the castle about to see the action unfold. At long last, her creation is ready for Dr. Frankencat's greatest achievement. Igor starts up the generators and cranks them at their maximum, as the creation begins to come to life. Frankencat wants more power as lightning strikes upon the cables, pushing the generators over their limit. Alas, her creation has finally awoken. He comes up to her thinking she's his mother, but she tries to keep him off telling him she's his creator. He turns to Igor, who tells the former not look at him, as he turns to one of Frankencat's machinery. Sam and Kitty had seen everything as the monster sees them, charges at them straight out the window and onto the ground. Frankencat and Igor prepare to go after him, as the monster tries to look for his "mother." Sam and Kitty were hiding in a tree right before the monster rips it off the ground and throws it out. Seeing him as a danger to Catsylvania, they go to warn the villagers.

Later that morning, the two arrive at Kitty's house on an ATV where her grandparents and some villagers were there; they saw the monster run off with My Melody! Kitty was worried about her niece as her grandmother gives her the direction of where he went. She and Sam set off to rescue Melody until they find them. Melody and the monster were walking together as he gives her a flower, calling her his mother. She appreciates his kindness, but tells him that she's not his mother, but she can be his friend. As the monster runs around in glee, Sam and Kitty speed by as they grab Melody away. Seeing them take his new friend away, he gives chase as he plows through trees to get to them. Down the path, Frankencat and Igor stand by on a crane with a magnet attached to catch him as she sees the constable leading him to them. As the three speed away, the monster stops just under the magnet as Frankencat manages to catch him.

Back at town, Sam and Kitty had successfully brought Melody to safety. Melody explains to them that he's a nice monster who wanted to be friends with her, not harm her. The two ask her if she's explaining the truth, and she affirmatively answers.

Back at the castle, Frankencat explains the problem with this monster to Igor; he's not very intelligent. Despite how Igor is often considered dumb and useless to her, she uses him anyway as he's only thing she's got and orders him to sit under the mind transfer machine. He asks her if it's safe, but she isn't quite positive about it as she tells him to at least look at it this way; he's about to make scientific history. She activates the machine, but it's not working as Igor is not tall enough to make the transfer. She orders him to sit up straight, but he protests that he is. She demonstrates to him on how it's actually done, only to be caught up on the machine herself. Thinking she's transferred enough mind to the monster, Igor deactivates the machine. Finally, the monster is now like-minded just like Frankencat, as Igor was well impressed that it worked. However, he suddenly hears a mob of angry villagers about to raid the castle as Constable Sam, Hello Kitty and My Melody rush by to stop them. Sam tells them to calm down and explains to them that the monster is actually nice and is also friends with Melody. Then, the monster opens the castle gates as the villagers were surprised to see him in a different way. Igor tells them that it's okay as something wonderful has happened; the monster is now smarter and Dr. Frankencat is nice as she introduces them to her "son." The monster welcomes them to the castle, telling them that they've been invited to come in for milk and cookies, and a tour of the laboratory, especially his dear friend Melody. She asks him if he wants to go out and play, and he accepts under Frankencat's acceptance. Dr. Frankencat and Igor happily watch My Melody and the monster playing happily together as the story ends.
