"Hello Kitty" is a 1977 song sung by Hayashibara Megumi that was available on a vinyl release from Sanrio Records which also included あの子はキティ (Ano Ko wa Kitty). It's about how Hello Kitty is so popular and makes everyone happy, even "naughty kids, mean kids and angry kids" like her too.

It was revived for the debut song of Hello Kitty Sings as the Popcorn Song, based on a previous video that played alongside a Hello Kitty popcorn machine.

A shortened and re-recorded version of the song was also used as an opening for several OVAs starring Hello Kitty, most notably English dubs such as The Dream Thief.

English Lyrics (OVA Version)[]

Hello, Kitty. Play with us today.

We'll laugh and sing on this lovely sunny day.

All your friends are waiting for you.

Ready to run and play.

Everyone will gather around.

This is what they'll say:

"When we see your friendly smile, you brighten up our day."

Oh, hello, hello, kitty! Hello, dear friend.

Your smile's pretty like a flower that's in bloom.

Love is in your heart, it sings a happy tune.

Hello, hello, Kitty! Play with us today!

Translated English Lyrics[]

Hello Kitty, Konnichiwa!

Kitty is everyone’s favorite

Even naughty, malicious, short-tempered people

If we’re together with kind Kitty,

Hooked on her, we’ll grow kind

Hello, Hello Kitty, Hello Kitty

Yesterday’s red flower bud,

Bloomed just a little today

Hello, hello Kitty, Konnichiwa!

Bye, bye Kitty, see you tomorrow

Kitty is everyone’s treasure

Even crybaby, weakling, lonely people

If we’re together with cute Kitty,

We’ll grow to smile beautifully

Let’s forget the bad things

The worsening rainy days won’t go on

Bye, bye Kitty, see you tomorrow

Bye, bye Kitty, see you tomorrow
