Hello Kitty and Friends, also known as Sanrio World Masterpiece Cinema Series in Japan, is a series of Japanese direct-to-video animations starring Hello Kitty, Mimmy, and other Sanrio characters. The original Japanese OVAs were produced from 1989 all the way up to 1998.

Out of the 80 OVAs produced, 30 were dubbed into English and complied into a TV series. This anime aired on Toon Disney in the United States and on YTV in Canada. 13 OVAs with Hello Kitty, 10 with Keroppi, 4 with Pekkle, 2 with Pochacco and only 1 with Patty and Jimmy were dubbed into English.

Two similar shows, Hello Kitty's Paradise and Hello Kitty's Animation Theater, as well as Growing Up With Hello Kitty, would follow this series between the mid 1990s and the early 2000s.

  8. "The Wonderful Sisters" (1993) -- A new boy named Robert joins the school, and Mimmy thinks he's interesting. Later, Robert makes his way to the Whites' house thanks to some directions, but Kitty accidentally bamboozles him as to which is which.
  9. "Snow White" (1993) -- A retelling of Snow White.
  10. "Heidi" (1993) -- A retelling of Heidi.
  11. "Alice in Wonderland" (1993) -- A retelling of Alice in Wonderland
  12. "The Dream Thief" (1993) -- Kitty and company get their dreams stolen.
  13. "The Prince in His Dream Castle" (1994) -- Prince Edwin is being attacked in his castle! Can he get out with Kitty's help?

  • The original Japanese versions of these OVAs have some scenes that were cut from their English dubs, likely for time.
  • The United States VHS home releases of the show in 1995 were distributed by Family Home Entertainment, which would also release the iconic Speed Racer series among others around the time.
  • The "Mom Loves Me After All" episode is often considered by the Sanrio community as one of the most heartbreaking episodes in any Hello Kitty media.
  • Hello Kitty and Friends marks the debut of Thomas, Fifi, Tracy, Tippy, and Jody.
  • The Canadian VHS cover for "The Prince in His Dream Castle" shows both Hello Kitty and Mimmy meeting Prince Edwin. However, in the actual episode, only Kitty meets the prince in person.
