This for the first season of the Jewelpet anime, for the anime as a whole, see Jewelpet, for the characters of the same name, see Jewelpet

Jewelpet (ジュエルペット, Juerupetto) is the first season of the TV anime Jewelpet, produced by Studio Comet, based off the Sanrio characters of the same name. It was first announced on January 14th, 2009 at the 2009 Tokyo Toy Forum to coincide with the release of the Jewelpet toyline. It first aired on April 5th, 2009 and ended on March 28, 2010.

Production and Development[]

Greenlit in 2008 and later annoucned at the 2009 Tokyo Toy Forum, Jewelpet would begin production after Sanrio contacted Studio Comet to produce another anime based off their characters, as Onegai My Melody Kirara★ was coming to an end, to which the company agreed. Early pitches for the anime had the plot be a lot more similar to Onegai My Melody, with a heavier focus on Jewel Land and the Jewel Charms themselves, with the human characters all being witches searching for the pets to stop the Dark Magic. Additionally, Ruby would've had a different personality, being polite and tidy compared to how she is in the final series.
