Trivia[]

  • Hello Kitty's YouTube channel had a video (since deleted, along with the majority of the channel's content from 2023 and earlier) explaining that Kirimi-chan (きりみちゃん) is the character's name, while KIRIMIchan. is a name that encompasses Kirimi-chan, her friends, and their whole universe, similar to how her name is Kitty White and not Hello Kitty, and Little Twin Stars are individually named Kiki and Lala.
  • Most Japanese sources refer to Kirimi's gender as "indeterminate" or "unknown" (with one English news article incorrectly referring to them as a "girl"), but in the previously mentioned video, Kitty stated, "Kirimi-chan is neither a boy nor a girl."
  • While Hello Kitty refers to Kirimi-chan with they/them pronouns in Kirimi's focus video, she refers to Kirimi-chan as he/him in a different video, and other official sources, such as the Sanrio character ranking website, refer to Kirimi-chan as she/her.
  • KIRIMIchan.'s first appearance was in 2013 with their participation in the Food Character Election. KIRIMIchan. won the election and became an official Sanrio character on December 12, 2013.
  • Kirimi-chan lives in a kirimi shaped house on the beach.
