Lloromannic (ルロロマニック, Ruroromanikku) are a duo of characters by Sanrio from the Cinnamoroll universe named Berry and Cherry. They made their first appearance in 2007 and were created by Miyuki Okumura. They are the rivals of Cinnamoroll in a similar manner as Kuromi with My Melody, and although the duo resemble himself and his friends who are dogs, Lloromannic are a different yet sinister species - demons. Therefore, they serve as antagonists.

Lloromannic come from a world on the other side of the mirror, and now live on the outskirts of Shukuru Town in an abandoned, western-style, gothic mansion, possibly once owned by Espriana's family.

The group initially consisted of the male member Berry, but he became lonely and was also jealous of Cinnamoroll's popularity and so he created Cherry, his female companion.

Unique from other characters, due to themselves being demons, Lloromannic have two forms in which they can change at will - their standard cute appearance and a more powerful and scarier form known as their "full" state. Like Cinnamoroll, they have the ability to fly, though by using actual wings instead of their ears.

Unlike real-world demons, though Berry and Cherry are known to be mischievous like Kuromi, they do not personally have malicious intentions toward others, as their actions are usually for teasing and can be friendly even in their full forms.

The Demons[]

Berry (ベリー) is a dark grey demon with ram horns and a devil tail. Berry used to be alone, but being jealous of Cinnamoroll for his popularity, he decided to make a friend! He made Cherry, however, she didn’t come out as perfect as he wanted her to be. They would argue or disagree sometimes, but that didn’t matter. They’d always make up in the end! Berry likes to play rough and cause all sorts of mischief with his best friend Cherry!

In his full demon form, he has longer horns, fangs, long claws, skeletal wings, a wider mouth, and bright yellow eyes.

Cherry (チェリー) is a light pink demon with black wings on her head, a pink bow tie, and a little black top hat. Cherry was made to be the new friend of Berry. Cherry can be a little bossy and selfish, but acts like an angel around anyone else besides Berry! She likes to have fun and cause mischief with Berry. She has a crush on Espresso, though he finds her annoying.

In her full demon form, her accessories disappear and just has a black ribbon and bow wrapped around her tail, red claws, bigger and open wings, and bright maroon eyes.

Appearances in Media[]

In stark contrast to Cinnamoroll, Lloromannic has rarely appeared in official Sanrio media.

They have so far only featured in two 3D animated shorts (their first appearance), Onegai My Melody Kirara (the prequel series of Onegai My Melody) as the show's hosts and briefly as Kuromi's sidekicks in its 18th episode, as well as Hello Kitty Island Adventure as visitors during the months between September to November. They are also part of the main cast for the stop-motion series Let's Roll, Cinnamoroll.

Trivia[]

Lloromannic backed into a corner

Although occasionally antagonistic and in spite of being demons, Lloromannic does not intend to cause harm, as seen in Onegai My Melody Kirara, after being chased and cornered

  • Like Kuromi, Lloromannic was designed as a villain character for Sanrio. Despite this, they are not inherently evil.
  • Lloromannic's name is a corruption of Cinnamoroll's, as it is simply spelled backwards, which also reflects their polar opposite nature as dark mythical creatures rather than being angelic-looking like their rival.
    • Berry and Cherry's individual names are based on the fruit berry family.
  • Although Sanrio already has an early duo of characters self-proclaimed as demons named Dopey Demons in 1979, they are merely bunnies in costumes that do not resemble such mythical creatures at all, unlike Lloromannic.
  • It is strongly implied that Berry is the one true rival of Cinnamoroll, as he is the only one of the group to actually have a grudge against the small white furry dog, while Cherry appears rather neutral.
  • As revealed in the debut 3D shorts, Berry's creation of Cherry seems to be purely by accident, as when he was putting the ingredients in the pot used to brew them, he put in salt (which is known as a holy element is most cultures) rather than sugar, and when she was born, she became out of control and even attacked Berry, causing him to run away in fear.
  • At times, when Lloromannic becomes startled, their eyes can be seen glowing, which is often the case for Berry.
  • Berry's goal is to kick Cinnamoroll out of Cafe Cinnamon and live there for himself to eat all the delicious food. Cherry's, on the other hand, is simply to marry Espresso as a celebrity (much to his annoyance), making herself a gold digger.
  • In Onegai My Melody Kirara, Berry and Cherry appear to possess powerful magical powers by simply snapping their fingers, usually to cause mischief.
    Cinnamoroll helping Berry

Berry and Cinnamoroll holding hands in Let's Roll, Cinnamoroll

  • Let's Roll, Cinnamoroll, released 18 years after their debut, is the first piece of media by Sanrio to show Berry or Cherry directly interact with Cinnamoroll, which is met with praise by fans.
  • Berry is the only male Sanrio character to be voiced by an actual male actor, alongside Dear Daniel.
  • Despite being a close pair, Cherry and Berry are not related to each other.
  • When in their normal forms, Lloromannic's shadows as well as their pictures in the mansion depict them as their more devilish full states, with the exception of Let's Roll, Cinnamoroll.
  • Despite their similarity with Kuromi in their overall theme, Berry and Cherry's birthdays are not on Halloween (October 31st).
  • Much like Kuromi, Lloromannic has a taste of punk rock or heavy metal music, with Berry being the electric guitarist while Cherry is the singer.
    • In artwork showing themselves playing such with Cinnamoroll, a third member who appears to be a ghost is their drummer.
  • In one of the two 3D shorts, when Lloromannic perform their scary tricks onto sleeping people with a magic book to cause mischief, they briefly turn into their full forms.
  • In some artwork featuring Cherry, her tail can be seen being in the shape of a heart.
    Lloromannic with Cinnamoroll's friends

Lloromannic's appearance in comparison to Cinnamoroll and his friends as seen in Let's Roll, Cinnamoroll

  • Unlike the other Cinnamoroll universe characters which are dogs/puppies, despite their similar appearance, Berry and Cherry are demons.
    • Due to this reason, Lloromannic is not technically a doppelgänger of Cinnamoroll in spite of being his rival, unlike Kuromi and Frido with My Melody and Hello Kitty, respectively.
    • It is possible that Berry and Cherry may originally have been dogs themselves, but had transformed into devilish species at some point in their life, although the latter is actually a creation by the former.
    • The characters' creator, Miyuki Okumura, has not publicly stated the inspiration behind Lloromannic's contrasting look.
  • Cherry's Japanese voice actress, Fujiko Takimoto, who also voices Badtz-Maru, is famously known as the voice of Link, the main protagonist of Nintendo's The Legend of Zelda franchise, as a child in certain games, specifically Ocarina of Time and Majora's Mask.
  • Fitting their nature, they are afraid of sunlight and love to play scary tricks on children at night. However, this has only been shown in their debut 3D shorts, as Berry and Cherry do not seem to be vulnerable to it in later media and the duo are active even during daytime in those cases.
  • Being the rival of Cinnamoroll and are far less popular than him in comparison, some fans consider Berry and Cherry as one of the most underrated characters created by Sanrio.
    • Lloromannic, like Kuromi, is loved among the goth community.
      Hand pierced by Berry's tail

Berry's tail piercing onto a hand to make it lose its grip on his horn in Onegai My Melody

  • In Onegai My Melody Kirara, Berry can be seen using his "devil" tail to inflict pain onto someone's hand to make them let go of himself and Cherry.
  • Lloromannic has the ability to change size. Although normally one of the smallest Sanrio characters, in one of the 3D shorts when the duo became afraid of sunlight they began to shrink as they went into hiding, while Onegai My Melody Kirara has Berry grow into a giant as he begins a rampage. In addition, an official artwork of Cherry placing statues of other Cinnamoroll universe characters shows herself at a large proportionate scale compared to the room of the mansion and statues.
  • Merchandise of Lloromannic is known to be relatively rare compared to the more popular Sanrio characters, including Cinnamoroll.
  • In Hello Kitty Island Adventure, Berry and Cherry are shown to have gray irises.
  • The term demon, by technical means, are malevolent and grotesque supernatural beings known as fallen angels who were banished from Heaven due to themselves having sinned in eternal rebellion against God, with their stronghold being the underworld known as Hell, and are minions of Satan, formerly named Lucifer, based on real-life Christianity religious beliefs. In the context of Lloromannic, however, although Berry and Cherry indeed appear devilish (yet cute at the same time) especially in their full forms because of their species as such, are quite mischievous and have a dark theme similar to Kuromi's, they never serve such evil biblical entity whatsoever, live rather peacefully in a mansion, and the duo often appears to be friendly rather than malicious.
    Lloromannic using wicked magic

In their debut shorts, a symbol associated with Satanism can be seen, such as when Lloromannic performed their scary tricks on sleeping children

    • This itself could be the likely reason why Lloromannic appears infrequently compared to other Cinnamoroll universe characters, as to not risk tarnishing Sanrio's image. It is especially notable that, as early as their first appearance, in spite of being currently abandoned in general to avoid controversy, Berry and Cherry were formerly seen with artwork and actions associated with the Devil, such as performing wicked magic and brewing in the 3D shorts. With this in mind, it would make Lloromannic technically the most villainous character in Sanrio's history.
  • Lloromannic's appearance in Onegai My Melody Kirara could be possibly due to their absence from Cinnamoroll: The Movie, with their role as a rival to Cinnamoroll being replaced by the exclusive character Chowder.
