My Melody and friends celebrating Harinezume's birthday
What's This? My Heart is Pounding (何？ドキドキする, nani ？ dokidoki suru) is the first episode of the My Melody & Kuromi, it aired on July 24th, 2025.
When My Melody opens a cake shop that's very popular in Mariland, Kuromi, tired of being overshadowed by My Melody, steals ingredients from her to try and make better sweets. Meanwhile My Melody ventures into the Mariland Forest and stumbles upon a strange discovery.
Summary[]
Up in the sky, a heart-shaped comet falls from the sky and lands inside a forest in Mariland, a place where everyone lives happily. Nearby, a hedgehog comes out of his home and heads to My Melody's cake shop, which became wildly popular after My Melody discovered that strawberries become extra sweet when she played her favourite music to them and opened the shop for her friends. Once inside the shop, My Melody gives Harinezume a cake to celebrate his birthday, but is missing decorations. At first My Melody asks her friend Flat if she could use his ribbon but is then told she can get candles by pulling a vine, My Melody and her friends then sings Happy Birthday to Harinezume.
Outside the cake shop, Kuromi is watching the birthday through a drone, Kuromi is tired of My Melody always getting in her way such as when she made gratin for everyone, during her big moment and when she was bedridden with a 40-degree fever and now when Kuromi opened her sweets shop. Meanwhile, the only customer in her shop tries her dorayaki and is grossed out by it which angers Kuromi. Kuromi then goes to the basement of her shop, angered that Baku is no longer with her as he cares for his younger brothers. Despite putting a lot of care into her food, she realizes how bad it tastes after eating it, wondering if there's a way to make sweets taste better.
The next day, Flat meets My Melody, wanting to check out the market to create a new item for the cake shop's menu, with My Melody noticing that Flat has a stuffy nose. At the market, Kuromi follows My Melody and Flat to try and understand how to make her sweets better, My Melody wants to use celery for her smoothie which confuses Flat as it's not a fruit with My Melody telling him that her Mama says it helps boost the immune system, despite Flat not liking celery. Back at My Melody's shop, the new item is a whirly smoothie with strawberry, apple, banana, kiwi, honey and celery, Kuromi visits the shop and asks for one of the smoothies, My Melody thanks Kuromi for the strawberry jam she made, with a flashback revealing it to be the cause for Flat's illness, after getting a smoothie, Kuromi is still enraged over the cake shop's popularity, reading a letter given to her by My Melody about playing mozart for the strawberries, Kuromi gets the idea to steal the strawberries for her own sweets.
Back at My Melody's cake shop, Flat feels better after drinking the celery smoothie, not noticing the celery from the other fruits mixed with it, My Melody yawns and decides to take a "small sleep", during her small sleep, My Melody dreams of a land of candy above the clouds, with Piano and Flat playing, until a large fluffy hand grabs My Melody, she then sees a montage of various scenarios and then a pink heart while feeling her own heartbeat, she is then woken by Flat as the shop's strawberries have been stolen, but My Melody goes back to sleep to see how the dream ends, before being reminded of what her Mama said about there being nothing more boring than hearing about someone else's dream.

With the strawberries stolen and the market already closed for the day, the only option is for My Melody to go to the Mariland Forest, somewhere she hasn't been before, Flat then gives her a map to head out to get the strawberries to which My Melody agrees before quickly becoming totally lost in the forest. Meanwhile Kuromi is trying to sell her dorayaki, with no one around, a flyer then blows in her face advertising a sweets contest. Back in the forest, My Melody takes a break from her being lost before hearing a heartbeat sound, wondering where the sound is coming from she finds a tree with the noise coming from it before falling into the tree. Underground she can feel her own heartbeat as she comes closer to a glowing pink heart, wondering if it was from her running earlier or not. Upon touching the heart it, it glows and starts beating, My Melody feels her own heartbeat and collapses with the vines surrounding the heart letting go of it, when My Melody wakes up she is at the same land of candy from her dream, with another creature watching her from a distance.

Trivia[]
- The Kuromi Note makes an appearance for the first time since Onegai My Melody ended, with Kuromi using it to show her and My Melody's popularity rather than unfortunate events like in the previous anime.
- Kuromi Note 1124 is referenced directly when My Melody's sushi hat overshadows Kuromi's princess kimono during a play.
- The portriat of My Melody's mother seen when My Melody has a small sleep is a reference to one of her advice flashbacks from Onegai My Melody, including the flower border.
