"(singing) That's why we got those gondola blues."
—Pinocchio and Chip

Pinocchio Penguin is an episode of Hello Kitty's Furry Tale Theater that is based on the classic story of Pinocchio.

Story[]

Lonely toy-maker Grandpappetto Kitty never has anyone to play with… until Hello Fairy arrives and transforms his favorite puppet into a real, live penguin!

Plot[]

Before the play, Grandpa Kitty asks Tuxedo Sam of how he likes being a puppet, responding with "It feels like someone's stringing me along," as he laughs at his own joke. Hello Kitty is not amused with Sam's jokes, as Chip calls out for curtain time.

Once upon a meow, along the canals of Venice, Italy, the poor and kindly toy maker, Grandpappetto Kitty was poised to make the greatest puppet to ever exist. He gives it the name "Pinocchio," and his creation becomes a wonderful masterpiece. He begins to wish that his puppet would be a real penguin as he heads for bed, until he sees a blue moon and begins to make his wish, "I wish my Pinocchio puppet would come to life," then he goes to sleep. Soon, Hello Fairy appears in her moon bike and gives life to the puppet (however her wand needs to be fixed). Pinocchio assumes her as his father, but she tells him that she isn't as she helps him practice walking. The fairy leaves as Pinocchio keeps assuming various things as his father until he knocks over a pendulum clock, waking Grandpappetto to up. Grandpappetto sees Pinocchio and is happy that his dream had come true.

That morning, Pinocchio sets off for school and meets Chip, claiming to be "the most popular guy in Venice," making his muzzle grow. Pinocchio introduces himself to Chip, claiming to be how he was "the most popular guy in his old school," making his upper beak grow too. Pinocchio was curious, thinking he told a lie, and the growing happened again. At the bridge, Catnipia and Grinderosso were acting as crossing guards, taking the children's lunch and eating them until Pinocchio and Chip pass by them as they keep on telling each other lies and making their noses grow. Grinderosso compliments about how good Pinocchio's lunch is, describing him as a walking, talking puppet, as Catnipia has the idea of using the magic puppet as the act she needs to get her show running on the Grand Canal. She asks them of any talents as they keep using lies to to impress her. Catnipia tells Grinderosso to take them to the showboat gondola to get ready, and to make sure that they sign the contract too. Pinocchio then asks about Grandpappetto, who could possibly be worried about him, and Chip asks about getting paid, with Catnipia answering them both with lies, making her tail grow as well, as the duo leaves with Grinderosso.

At the showboat gondola in the Grand Canal, Pinocchio and Chip were performing in the show and the crowd cheered. After the show, Catnipia was giving everyone their cut and the two boys were about to tell Grandpappetto about what happened, but Catnipia confronts them as the contract that they have signed earlier was a lifetime contract and takes the coin they owe her! They try to run, but run into a trapdoor and end up in the bottom of the boat. Then they try to use the porthole to signal their father as their noses keep on getting longer from lying. Meanwhile, Grandpappetto was looking for them on the foggy canals, until a humpback whale emerges from the canal and consumes him. Suddenly, Hello Fairy comes as they try to tell her what happened with lies, until she finally convinces them to tell the truth of what really happened. They do, and this time their noses grow smaller, and the fairy enlarges the porthole for them to escape. She returns their noses back to normal size and tells them to stay out of trouble for it's the last time she'll bail them out. Catnipia and Grinderosso were asleep as the boat was sinking in the bottom of the canal and wake up knowing about this.

When the boys return to the toy shop, there was a note on the door that read, "CLOSED! GONE TO LOOK FOR MY LOST PUPPET SON!" The two were worried about him, so they call for Hello Fairy to help them look for Grandpappetto. She told them that this is the last time that she will ever help them, which made her nose grow this time, making the fairy kitten feel silly as she shrunk it back down. She tells them that Grandpappetto is inside Humphrey the Humpback Whale, but they must act fast as Catnipia and Grinderosso were coming after them! The two boys dive into the canal as she uses her tail as a lasso on a pole and dives after them, until Grinderosso pulls her out, assuming she caught them already. The two ask an octopus for directions to Humphrey, but Catnipia and Grinderosso were coming after them on a boat with a net. They hide into what is assumed to be a cave, only to be Humphrey's mouth. Inside Humphrey, Pinocchio and Chip finally reunite with Grandpappetto, as Humphrey silences them as he's trying to find his way back to the ocean. They realize about how lost the poor whale is and decide to guide him there so they can be set free. Catnipia and Grinderosso continue the chase as they follow Humphrey's spout, but fail as they were spouted away.

Humphrey, Grandpappetto, Pinocchio and Chip arrive at the toy shop where Hello Fairy was waiting. She tells him how he's been a good boy for not telling a single lie and making his nose grow. She decides to give him a reward by making a wish; either helping Humphrey get back home, or becoming a real penguin. Pinocchio has kept his promise to Humphrey and wishes for him to be home. Hello Fairy decides to guide him herself and tells Pinocchio that he has proved himself to be unselfish, brave, and true. She turns him into a real, live penguin, and Grandpappetto is happy that his wish had finally come true. They wave Humphrey goodbye as Hello Fairy guides him home. The story ends and the actors take their bow.
