- "Nice try, but Peter can't read."
- —Prince Edwin notes that Blackwell cannot read.
Prince Edwin is a minor character from Hello Kitty and Friends. He makes his only appearance in The Prince in His Dream Castle, where Kitty White encounters and helps him.
Description[]
Prince Edwin is an anthropomorphic male Japanese bobtail cat who wears a blue royal outfit. He carries a sword. Unlike most bobtails, who have yellow noses, Edwin is given a black nose.
History[]
Edwin is first seen when Kitty sees his portrait inside his castle and immediately sees him as a brave adventurer. His next appearance is only a minute later, where he tries to persuade his friend Victor to accompany him in his escape. Victor refuses due to his sick condition. At that moment, Blackwell and his troops break into the room, but Edwin manages to fend off their charge with his sword. Blackwell disarms Edwin with his own sword, but Edwin is able to retrieve his weapon when Kitty distracts Blackwell with her whistle (which she had bought for a camping trip near the castle itself). Having gotten his sword back, Edwin forces Blackwell to surrender. Blackwell retreats while his downed troops get back up and follow his lead out the castle.
After the battle, Edwin and Victor see Kitty, who had watched the battle and had been sneaking around the castle. Curious, Edwin climbs the stairs to get to the ledge, where he finds Kitty, getting to know her and temporarily befriending her. Having been injured in battle, Edwin leads Kitty to the storeroom, where he and Victor get their injuries treated. When Kitty inquires why the Blackwells were trying to take his castle, Edwin explains that they were trying to take his lands for as long as he can remember. At first, the Blackwells attacked the villagers. Edwin managed to counter their assault with his fighting prowess and army, but knew that it would not be safe if he stayed in his home anymore, with them plotting a stronger attack. Kitty doubts that Blackwell and his men would try another attack after Edwin fought them off, but Edwin counters by mentioning that she had played a part in stopping them (Kitty had knocked an urn onto the head of one of Blackwell's soldiers, which Edwin used as a substitute for his sword.). Edwin then tells her that she should leave, since the castle has become dangerous. Kitty then suggests that they could trap Blackwell in one of the towers, an idea that Edwin shoots down since Blackwell has his own big family. She then suggests leaving a note saying that he surrenders, which Edwin also shoots down due to Blackwell's inability to read. The Blackwells return, and Kitty responds to their invasion by barring the door so they cannot enter. She then reveals a secret passage that she, Edwin, and Victor enter. When Wendell enters the castle, he demands that the troops search the castle. When they fail, he orders the castle to be set on fire. Kitty, Edwin, and Victor manage to get through the tunnel and outside. Wendell orders some of his scouts to search the area around the castle, but Edwin and Victor steal the scouts' horses to get away. Edwin offers Kitty a chance to ride on his horse, but Kitty refuses, saying that she has to get back to her friends and family. The two part ways, and Kitty gives an understanding Edwin her whistle to remind him of their friendship. Edwin then leaves on his new horse as his friend Victor follows the prince's trail. The ending confirms that Edwin managed to get away and find refuge in a new castle, even wearing the whistle that he got from Kitty around his neck.
