The Sadako x Hello Kitty collab was made as a collab between Hello Kitty x The Ring horror movies, Made specifically to promote the latest movie at the time, Sadako 3D, which came out in 2012. This collab features Hello Kitty dressed as the character Sadako, who is the main antagonist.

The items released sometime in May and were sold at theaters showing the movie, along with being orderable online.

They renewed the contract for the sequel, Sadako 3D2 in 2013, and later on in 2016 there was also a collab for the movie Sadako Vs Kayako, where Mimmy dresses as Kayako to go with Kitty dressing as Sadako.

In 2019 they renewed the contract to make new merch for the Sadako movie that came out in 2019.

In 2022 there was another collab called Sanrio Characters x Sadako featuring Pochacco, My Melody, and Cinnamoroll in addition to Hello Kitty, but Sadako Kitty looks different in that collaboration compared to the standalone Sadako x Hello Kitty collab that happened in the years prior. This collab was to promote the movie Sadako DX and this version of Sadako Kitty has a red bow and a plain white dress compared to the design used years prior.
