Sanrio World

Sanrio World (previously Sanrio Chit Chat World) was a MMO game for PC hosted by Sanrio Wave that existed from 2000 to 2007 and was the predecessor to Hello Kitty Online. The way users would join is to pay for a subscription service, make an account and then download the software to play the game. You could talk, play events, and get items using the currency apples. The game was shut down on March 3, 2007. The official website was released on April 2, 2002, (according to the website redirect) but the website for it's old name, Sanrio Chit Chat World, was seemingly released on April 24, 2001.

The game takes place in Sanrio Fantasy World, the main location of the game. You would take control in the game with the arrow keys and there were features like was E.S.P, a way to chat to someone directly without people seeing, and the angel mechanic, which is this game's version of ghost on how you will be invisible if there is a limit of people in the room, you can also become one manually to fast travel and you can turn back if the room is not full. There were also web tours where you can be toured by someone as a feature.

The game's subscription service was a rare and ambitious for the time; basically, boiling down to paying for the 500-yen subscription though Sanrio Wave or having a Nifty ID, downloading the game to install it on your computer, and making an account to play. There was also a free trial with limited access. If you joined you got to earn the in game currency apples, and participate in various events, such as the Dark Event Park taking place in the amusement park, the Character Dice Event taking place in Kitty's Palace, and the various other events like snowman contests, birthdays, more dice events, and many others; After playing some of the event mini games, you would win the pseudo-currency points by participating and using them to get items.

Character Set Up[]

First, the game spawns you character outside the main map, the Castle Mansion, you can try out the expressions or just straight up go to the Registration Counter to enter your Sanrio World address to use the mail feature, it uses a Roblox-like system where addresses can be permanently taken and you cannot have the address name that you want if it is. Once you enter an available address, you can continue to naming your character. (and you can also have the same names of other people.) You can change the information later and your first wearable item is a beginner badge, so people know you are new. You can freely take it off if you want to. Once you go into the mansion, you could go inside and redeem a bit of your first currency, apples. you have 300 to start out but the tutorial recommends you to get 100. In the mansion you start off in the elevator lobby that would promote you to Sanrio products, and once you find the castle shop entrance you will find the ATM to redeem your apples. You will find the body changer room represented by 2 masculine and feminine bears, and once you're done with your body shaping, you can buy spray to change skin tones and clothing colors, if you put trash items in the nearby Recyling Bin like the tutorial suggests, you will get more apples. On the right of the body room, you can buy a head from the head vending machines and wear it, but some are customizable and is shown if they have an asterisk (*) next to their name. After you get used to the Interface and customize your character, the tutorial is done.

How To Earn Points[]

In order to win points, you have to do things in the game, here is the point system on what activities give points and how many:

1 Point - If you put a souvenir photo on your page, you can get a point, you can also participate in a Character Dice event and lose to get a point.

2 Points - If you win a Character Dice Event, you get 2 points, but if you have a commemorative photo make it on the top page, you also get 2 points.

5 Points - If you host and applied an event 5 points are awarded and sent to you in 3 days after the event, if more than one person hosted the event, 5 points will be awarded to the representative.

These points are used for exchange items in events.

You can rent a room with other people and be roommates.
The common maintenance hours were April 4 (Fri) 25:8~00:15 and May 5 (Wed) 14:8~00:15.
The characters can do the same animations that the players can do.
The Sanrio Characters can walk around the map, but they rarely show up, so taking a picture was treated as a special moment.
The main characters are Hello Kitty, Pompompurin, and Badtz-Maru, however Kiki and Lala, and Jimmy from the Patty and Jimmy duo appear.
