The Friendly Club is a group of human characters from Sanrio that includes Hanako and Taro. Originally, The Friendly Club was inspired by the Shōwa era[1] and made it's debut in 1985.
Hanako and Taro's stationary items became very popular, and soon lots more merchandise, including bags and kitchen tools, were created.
Hanako and Taro both attend the same school. Hanako is a very smart girl who excels at getting good grades and swimming, while Taro isn't very good at a lot of things, but she has a stamp collecting hobby. Still, despite these differences, the two remain good friends!

- The Friendly Club was featured in The Strawberry News numerous times, including in an article where the characters taught flag signals.
- Taro appears in the audience among other Sanrio characters, such as MINNA NO TABO in Pokopon no Satogaeri.
