Unico is a baby boy unicorn with light blue or white fur, a pink mane, a white tail, orange hooves, and little cinnamon bun-shaped ears. He has the natural gift of making other creatures lighthearted and happy.
He is usually with his friends, which include:
- Beezle, the young Devil of Solitude from Scottish and Celtic Mythology
- Chao (or "Katy" in the English anime), a naive little kitty who longs to be a human girl and to learn magic from a real witch
- A spunky little Sphinx (in the second film)
- Cheri, a warm-hearted human girl
